The vision of AppaPhil is to have well sustained Appalachian communities.
AppaPhil’s primary goal is to attract philanthropic investment in Appalachia and its objectives are to: (A) offer networking platforms and educational support services to communities, (B) provide and attract resources that help foster collaboration and coalition building, and (C) nurture economic development through social-enterprise.

We just wanted everyone to know that we will be having a reception for Patti Del Checcolo in Huntington March 15th from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Patti is displaying a variety of her work, but there is an emphasis on her portraits (which are unbelievable).

Our Current Programs
- MiAppa - Made in Appalachia
The Made in Appalachia program is designed to celebrate and perpetuate Appalachian culture and heritage while discovering and promoting the artisans who live here. Through MiAppa, artisans are recognized for their creative effort, encouraged to start or grow their business, and enjoy a larger customer base and greater exposure.- AppaKids
The AppaKids program helps any Appalachian child unlock his or her creative talents by providing activities focused on Appalachian arts and entrepreneurship. The AppaKids initiative also fosters a sense of pride in children for their unique heritage. Our goal is to elevate all children in Appalachia and provide them equal opportunities to succeed in life. AppaKids activities include programs for all ages from early childhood through college and career.- Strengthening Communities to Prevent Diabetes in Rural Appalachia
A grant from the Centers for Disease Control has been awarded to The Center for Appalachian Philanthropy (AppaPhil). The purpose of the grant is to begin work with people in the Appalachian region, including in your community, to reduce diabetes risk. Research shows more needs to be done in areas such as social ideas, group actions, environment and local policy. Read more.- AppaCares “Community Access to Resources, Education & Support”
Each CARES organization operates as a chapter of the Center for Appalachian Philanthropy which facilities community access to resources, education, and support for its most vulnerable populations including children, the elderly and individuals who need assistance to meet their health and human service needs. Its long-term goal is to provide a network to facilitate connectivity between agencies, services organizations, and churches to provide a strong support system for the community.
